What is in our name?
The Kensington takes its name from the timeless character of its surroundings and the city it calls home. Located in Victoria, the community reflects the charm of a place shaped by British heritage and a visible colonial past. This influence can be felt in the city’s architecture, gardens, and public spaces, offering a setting that feels established and thoughtfully designed.
The name Kensington is believed to draw inspiration from Kensington Palace and its gardens in London, England. That sense of classic elegance guided the development of a logo that feels refined while remaining warm and welcoming. The yellow rose, long associated with the gardens, became a natural point of inspiration and a subtle symbol of beauty and grace.
For a seniors’ community, The Kensington represents tradition paired with comfort. It speaks to a place where residents can enjoy walkable surroundings, pet friendly paths, and easy access to nearby amenities, all within a community that values familiarity, care, and a strong sense of home.

A community built with heart
In 2007, two longtime friends and healthcare professionals, Karim Kassam and Farid F. Damji, dreamed of a better way to care for seniors. Having watched their own parents and grandparents age with dignity and love, they felt called to extend that same level of care to others. Over a cup of coffee and a restaurant napkin, the foundation for Optima Living was born—a community built not just with bricks but with heart. In 2015, with the addition of Ali Shivji as a Principal, our leadership team expanded, along with our impact.
